I often speak about Saia's commitment to on-time delivery and our other Customer Service Indicators (CSIs), which are based on very stringent guidelines that allow fewer exception codes than our competitors. That's why when we say we provide 97% on-time service, it truly is an accountable result - one that I am very proud to report Saia surpassed last year and continues do so well into this year. Indeed, our on-time service performance has exceeded goal now for the longest period in company history - seven straight quarters.

In addition to our excellent on-time service, our "exception-free delivery," or DBE, performance has remained stellar as well. In fact, we improved our DBE performance last year by 40%. That trend continues as our DBE attainment averaged over 60 during the last three months. Our quarterly DBE results will soon be made available as our newest CSI.

Aside from our DBE results, we also launched a new product, Xtreme Assurance, in February. It has been designed to alleviate or eliminate the costly charge-backs some retailers are levying on shippers. I encourage any of our customers who ship to retailers with charge-back programs to visit the link on our home page or contact their sales representative to learn more. On average, we are handling over 7000 such shipments each month and have 98.6% on-time service performance.

To keep up with such demand, we recently moved our Portland, OR terminal to a new, larger facility. Though just down the street from the old terminal, the new facility has 63 doors, is nearly 17,000 square feet in size, and is situated on a 6.6 acre site that also features an office building and a shop. With 83 employees, the new terminal will continue to provide next day service to all points in Oregon and Washington as well as locations in Northern California and western Idaho.

While our on-time service results, DBE improvement, product creation, and facility changes prove exceptional, they certainly wouldn't be possible without the hard work and dedication of our employees. As such, I want to take this opportunity to congratulate six superb employees who were recently recognized with Saia's highest honor, the Chairman's Award. This award is part of a series of programs designed to recognize the contributions of employees at all levels of the company.

Barbara Clark, a dispatcher from Seffner, Fla.; Josh Harter, a customer service representative from Buford, Ga.; Paul Howard, a terminal manager from Corpus Christi, Texas; John Penny, a city driver from Toney, Ala.; Matt Richardson, a dockworker from Cement City, Mich.; and Bill Salter, a line driver from Folsom, La., were recently recognized as this year's honorees during the company's quarterly employee meetings. I would like to thank them for their contributions to Saia and their communities. These individuals epitomize the very best of Saia and are very deserving of such recognition.

While I am always happy to talk about our service, facility improvements, or outstanding employees, I am also proud of the fact that safety is, and always will be, our number one priority. That's why, this May, we announced a new policy that prohibits all Saia employees and contractors from using cell or Nextel phones and all other communication devices used for talking, texting, messaging, Internet access, and e-mail while driving a company vehicle or any other car or truck being used for company business. While certain county, state, and federal laws enforce similar bans, we wanted to take a stand for safety as a company. Though we recognize that cell phone use has become an integral part of everyone's daily personal and professional life, our obligation to building a best-in-class working environment that promotes respect and concern for employee and public heath and well-being supersedes the convenience created by these devices.

In closing, I want to say how thankful I am that the transportation industry is starting to see slight signs of improvement in the economy. While none of us expects strong growth, I believe we are finally headed in the right direction. As always, we appreciate your business and continued support!

Sincerely,

Rick O'Dell
President & CEO
